COVID19 (unexpected) lesson : KIDS

COVID19 has us on lock down for 4 weeks already here in Benelux. While everything is fine (all things considered), there are some aspects of the quarantine that I really underestimated. I’ll take you through my top 8.

KIDS ABILITY TO ADAPT TO COVID LOCKDOWN

First thing I underestimated about COVID19 consequences was our kids patience and adaptability.  They actually did great at adapting to the new routine.

Home schooling was not easy for us, as parents but they were diligent at following the cues. They have grown in autonomy and completed all the (heavy) homework.  I knew they were adaptable and good students but I did not expect it to be *so easy*.

Don’t get me wrong, it is not 100% smooth yet 200% smoother than I expected.

I also dreaded the physical activity level: they are used to running almost of the time at school during recess or lunchtime, yet they adapted surprisingly well.  Besides this: no more soccer practices, no more gymnastics or hip-hop classes but, guess what? Never once they have complained about that. Is it because we do dance and play soccer outside? We take time to play with them and take them outside at least a couple of times a day to let the steam off and get our active kids some physical activities … but then again, not much compared to usual.

I am actually the one who talks about the good days at skate park. They really seem OK with this new « just us » routine.

As the weeks go by, they need us more and more so I guess they need theirs friends, their world to get started again.

The fact remains: they have been great at adjusting … thankfully.
